The USD Alumni Staff is composed of ten staff members, six of which are alumni of the University of San Diego, and multiple student workers. We work as a team to enhance the quality of the alumni experience. Please join us at one of our future events or visit us in the Degheri Alumni Center, Suite 137.

The Office of International Constituent Relations falls within USD's alumni operations as of 2014.

Charles Bass, Senior Director

Charles Bass joined the University of San Diego in June 2011 as director of Alumni Relations and is responsible for overall management of the university’s alumni relations efforts. In addition to private sector experience, Bass has spent more than 15 years in higher education advancement and has worked on the staff of the Villanova University Alumni Association, as well as served as the senior alumni relations officer at the University of Denver and at his alma mater, The University of Tulsa.

Bass has worked regionally and nationally to advance the alumni relations profession, serving in a variety of volunteer roles for the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). He served as a faculty member for CASE’s “Newcomers in Alumni Relations” workshop and as a regional volunteer for CASE District II, District IV and District VI. Bass is also a co-founder of PCUAD, an association of private college and university alumni directors.

Claudia Iracema Gonzales '99 & '03, Director of International Constituent Relations

As director of International Constituent Relations, Claudia Iracema Gonzales serves as USD’s primary point of contact in University Relations for alumni, parents and friends of the university who are living and working abroad. Gonzales works with our international Torero Club programs, including our annual European, Asia, and Mexico reunions and our local Comité México activities, among others. She works closely with the International Center and with faculty and staff whose initiatives are designed to leverage the resources and interests of our global USD family. Gonzales is a member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE).

Kara Marsh Proffitt '04, Associate Director

Kara Marsh Proffitt started working in Alumni Relations in 2004. She now serves the office and the university as an Associate Director overseeing the Alumni Associations 23 regional chapters, all marketing, communications, social media and technologies, affinity programming including special interest groups, USD's professional schools and athletics, and oversight of Outreach & Regional Committees for the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Joyce Chua '09, Assistant Director

Joyce Chua joined the Alumni Relations team in 2012 as an Executive Assistant after three years in the travel industry. In Fall of 2013 Joyce was promoted to Assistant Director responsible for working with the Alumni Association's 23 domestic regional clubs.

Joyce graduated from USD in 2009 with a BBA in Business Administration, emphasis in International Business and a minor in International Relations. While attending USD she took part in the Founder’s Chapel Choir and was a Torero Squad leader.

Crystal Peterson '10, Assistant Director

Crystal Peterson is Assistant Director of Marketing for Alumni Relations, working to enhance alumni outreach for regional programming while engaging with the expanding USD community including parents and friends through various marketing strategies. She manages both email and social media campaigns for the Alumni Association, affinity groups, and over 20 regional chapters, both domestic and international. In addition, she creates and executes marketing campaigns from signature events (e.g. Wine Classic) to benefit programs (e.g. HireUSD) to alumni content (e.g. Featured Torero). Through her work, she increases outreach and finds creative ways to promote the opportunities for USD alumni to reconnect with their alma mater. 

She graduated in 2010 with a degree in Communications and a minor in Business Administration. Peterson comes from a background of event management in Las Vegas before returning to San Diego to pursue a career in marketing, serving three years in corporate marketing prior to joining USD Alumni Relations. Her passion for USD stemmed from her undergraduate experience after being involved in many facets of university life including Associated Students, Greek Life, and University Ministry. She looks forward to work for what she considers her second home and further engage with the great people of this campus community.

Anzueth G. Zambrano, Volunteer Coordinator

Anzueth Zambrano joined the Alumni Relations and International Constituent Relations team as the Administrative Assistant in 2015. She provided direct programmatic support to the Director of International Constituent Relations and was responsible for all aspects of daily office management. In Spring of 2017 Anzueth was promoted to Volunteer Coordinator for Alumni Relations. She is responsible for recruiting, managing and recognizing alumni volunteers for alumni events and programs. 

Prior to joining the Alumni Relations team, Anzueth returned to San Diego after completing her B.A. in Political Science at Colgate University in New York. During her time at Colgate, Anzueth served as the administrative assistant to the Vice President and Dean of the College as well as the marketing assistant to the Director of the Annual Fund. 

Lizzy Davis Hynd '14, '20, Budget and Data Manager

Lizzy Davis Hynd serves as the Budget and Data Manager for Alumni Relations. In this role, she manages the budgets for Alumni Relations and International Constituent Relations, project manages the Office Alumni Relations' Annual Report and is responsible for producing a monthly dashboard report.

Prior to joining the Alumni Relations team, Lizzy worked in corporate recruitment and as a member of the One Stop Student Center and Planned Giving Office at USD. She has a passion for helping people and serves as the Development and Membership Coordinator at the United Nations Association of San Diego. As a passionate alumna, Lizzy works hard to make the USD campus an inclusive and positive place.

Jessika Duran '16, Student and Alumni Engagement Coordinator

BA, University of San Diego, Sociology

Jessika graduated in January 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology.  She has partnered with local organizations in the community such as Bayside Community Center and Kit Carson elementary school, to promote healthy and sustainable living.  Throughout her college experience Jessika also served with the Community Service Learning center to support youth engagement through volunteering.  She was a third place finalist for the 2015 Ashoka Changemaker Challenge, Food for Life.  

Upon graduation, Jessika worked with the San Diego City Council and served as a Sales Representative for Houzz.  As a proud Alumna of the University, Jessika is excited to promote this school of Changemakers on a local and national level.  She hopes to bring her passion for student success to current and future members of the USD family.
