Daniel Burkett '06 Scholarship

The Daniel L. Burkett '06 Memorial Scholarship was established in honor of Danny Burkett '06, who had a special impact at the University of San Diego. The scholarship is open to all active members of social Fraternities and Sororities.  Students who show academic excellence and involvement in community service will best exemplify the spirit of this scholarship.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be a current and returning USD undergraduate student in good standing.
• Must be returning the following academic year (not eligible for graduating students.)
• Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
• Be an active member and in good standing with a social Greek Life organization.
• Demonstrated service to USD and/or the community.
• Special considerations given to students in Alcalá Club.

ESSAY PROMPT:
Describe in 750 words or less how you were able to benefit the life of somebody else through any personal life experiences, your involvement in USD Greek Life, and/or other campus involvement or community service. Also, share how you plan to continue your service as an active USD alumnus/a.

Danny graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Business Economics and in 2006 received the award of Academic Excellence in Business Economics. While at USD, he was a member of the prestigious Alcala Club, Omicron Delta Epsilon International Economics Honor Society, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity. His magnetic personality allowed him to touch the lives of many people.

Meet the USD Alumni Association Daniel L. Burkett Memorial Scholar for the current academic year:


 

Carina Leveroni, '24
Carina is a senior majoring in Biology and minoring in Chemistry and Biomedical Ethics. She is a Torero Tour Guide, a member of Kappa Alpha Theta, and currently serves as the Vice President of Administration for the Panhellenic Council. In her free time, she volunteers weekly as a crisis counselor at Crisis Text Line to support texters struggling with their mental health. Carina aspires to become a Genetic Counselor to help patients understand their unique genetic code and how it impacts their health.

In her own words, "I am honored to have received the Daniel Burkett Scholarship to help fund my senior year at USD. Thank you to all alumni and community members who donated to this scholarship, and to the scholarship committee for giving me the opportunity to carry on Daniel’s legacy. I will continue to be an active member of the USD community while finishing my education that will prepare me for all of my future endeavors."
